Zuniga-Varela to Appear in “Electricidad”
In The Wind director Sabina Zuniga-Varela stars in “Electricidad!”
Teatro Nuevo Mexico of Albuquerque presents “Electricidad,” a fresh and modern look at the Greek tragedy Elektra. The great Greek classic has been rewritten by noted Chicano playwright Luis Alfaro, losing none of its powerful and violent message.
Set in a barrio in Eastside Los Angeles, Sophocles’ 2,500 year-old tale is transformed into a vibrant, vital and thoroughly unforgettable myth for the modern age. “Electricidad” is a contemporary look at the power and consequences of revenge, and the damage it causes to a family and a community.
